About Elena and Copper Olive Kitchen

My name is Elena Kyriakou.

This is a place for sunny, practical recipes inspired by Cyprus, Greece, and the islands of the Eastern Mediterranean.

Here, food is meant to be shared. It should bring people together around the table without making the person cooking feel stressed or overwhelmed.

You will find plenty of olive oil, fresh lemons, herbs, vegetables, warm bread, grilled cheese, slow-cooked dishes, and simple meals that taste like they belong beside the sea.

Why Copper Olive Kitchen?

Copper Olive Kitchen was created to make Mediterranean island cooking easier to enjoy at home.

Many traditional recipes are passed down through families without exact measurements or detailed instructions. Someone may simply tell you to add “enough flour,” cook something “until it looks right,” or use a handful of an ingredient.

That works beautifully when you have made the dish for years. It is less helpful when you are trying it for the first time.

My goal is to take inspiration from these traditional dishes and present them in a clear, practical way, with measurements, cooking times, helpful notes, and ingredient substitutions whenever possible.

What You Will Find Here

The recipes on Copper Olive Kitchen are mainly inspired by:

  • Traditional Cypriot cooking
  • Greek island recipes
  • Easy Mediterranean dinners
  • Meze and sharing plates
  • Fresh salads and vegetable dishes
  • Breads, pies, and pastries
  • Mediterranean desserts
  • Recipes using halloumi, feta, olive oil, lemons, herbs, and seasonal produce

Some recipes stay close to their traditional roots. Others are simpler adaptations created for busy home cooks or for readers who may not have access to every regional ingredient.

Whenever a recipe is adapted rather than traditional, I will try to make that clear.

Simple Recipes for Real Kitchens

You do not need a professional kitchen or expensive equipment to cook good Mediterranean food.

Most recipes here are made with familiar ingredients and everyday tools. I also include substitutions where they make sense, especially for readers living outside Cyprus or Greece.

My approach is simple:

  • Clear ingredient amounts
  • Easy-to-follow instructions
  • Realistic preparation times
  • Helpful substitutions
  • No unnecessary steps
  • No overly complicated food styling required

The goal is not perfection. The goal is food that tastes good and makes you want to cook it again.

Respecting the Recipes

Food is closely connected to family, place, and memory.

There is rarely only one correct way to prepare a traditional dish. The same recipe may change from one village to another, from one island to another, or even between two people in the same family.

The versions shared here are not meant to replace anyone’s family recipe. They are one carefully researched and practical way to bring these dishes into a modern home kitchen.

I always welcome respectful suggestions, regional variations, and stories about how a recipe is prepared in your home.
